Friends of St Peter's Church

The scheme was conceived in 2009 to allow people, who don’t necessarily attend the church, the opportunity to help save the fabric of the building by giving financially or in kind. Since its inception the group has been in receipt of generous bequests and has organised fund-raising and awareness-raising activities including:

  • Christmas Tree Lighting Up Ceremonies

  • Christmas Day After Dinner Quizzes

  • Garden Party in Langford Court

  • Ice Cream sales at Village Fete

  • Open Day Activities including Climbing the Tower, Ringing the Church Bells, Guess the Antiques Quiz, and delicious Cream Teas

  • Performances of Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas

  • Songs that Won the War commemorating the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

We undertook to pay for the refurbishment and painting of the church porch and gate and the redecoration of the panel behind the altar.

‘The Jam Jar Army’ under the slogan ‘Save a Penny to Spend a Penny’ is raising money specifically to help towards the building of a toilet. Jam Jars available to fill are at the Church.

Friends of St Peter's  instigated the recording of the Church for posterity by the local NADFAS church recording group soon to be completed and presented to the Church after two years of hard work.

We are always looking for new friends to join us – see below for information on the Friends and how to join. Anyone interested in being a member of the committee will be made very welcome.
