Short Mat Bowls

The Short Mat Bowls group first came together shortly after the Jubilee Hall was first opened and when the Hall purchased two full sets of Bowls equipment from the West Monkton Village hall, where they were being underused.  All the equipment was in first class condition and the lengths of the mats perfect for the Jubilee Hall.

From a slow beginning and following word of mouth and advertisements placed locally, a small but enthusiastic group of bowlers has emerged, both beginners and those with experience, who meet regularly every Wednesday morning at the hall from 10am through to noon. As a rule there are at least a dozen regular attendants, coming from both the village and from further afield, and having recently purchased a third mat, there is the capacity for more to join and experience two hours fun and pleasure.

For the moment we have restricted the group to just the one morning a week, however if we can gain further interest we are keen to expand the activity and also consider forming a ‘Club’ and becoming competitive by joining a league and other local events. So why not simply turn up and see what it’s all about. It’s all very friendly and you will be made most welcome. All the more the merrier! Bowls can be provided, but please bring your own indoor flat soled shoes.

The cost to turn up and play is £3.00 per session and tea/coffee and biscuits are provided during a short break at about ‘half time’. There are no joining fees or other commitments, and the morning is purely recreational and good fun, though always with an element of friendly competitiveness. We're a non-profit organisation and where we find we have a surplus we have been able to donate monies to the good of the hall, such as purchasing a much needed hot water boiler.

Feel free to contact the organisers in the first instance, as listed below, should you wish for further information.
